Basic Instruments for Dental Clinics

Whether you are looking to upgrade your dental clinic or open your own, here is a reminder of the basic instruments for dental clinics that no good dental practice should be without. At Salvador Navarro you will find all the dental material you need for your dental clinic.

Basic instruments for dental clinics

A dental chair: It should be comfortable for patients and easy to manoeuvre for the various procedures to be carried out. It must have a foot pedal that allows the chair to be raised and lowered without difficulty. You also have the option of using examination couches instead of chairs — many clinics are increasingly using this alternative.

Stool: The seat where the dentist sits in order to carry out procedures. It should be positioned to one side of the chair where the patient is sitting.

Cabinet lamps: These are essential for a dental clinic, as they make the work more comfortable and easier. They consist of a head and a surface similar to an articulated arm. The head contains the light on a concave surface. They can be either freestanding or wall-mounted.

Mirror for examining the inside of the mouth: Its size allows it to reach deep inside the patient’s mouth, making the work easier. It provides a perfect field of vision for carrying out procedures.

Forceps: In dentistry, these are used for many tasks, such as suturing and moving small objects from one place to another. There are many types of forceps for specific activities, for example surgical forceps and ligature forceps, among others.

Pliers: Another frequently used instrument, used to cut wires and bend hooks. There are various types made from different materials depending on the intended use. They are available in materials such as plaster and come with a wide range of tip types.

Instrument tray: This should be positioned above the patient without touching them. All the material the dentist will need should be laid out on it.

Aspirator and saliva ejector: The saliva ejector is a small container placed to one side of the patient, where they can rinse or spit while the procedure is being performed. It is usually attached to the dental chair.

The aspirator: This suctions the fluid that accumulates in the mouth via a tube. During the procedure, it is difficult for the patient to swallow. It has a disposable mouthpiece and a rubber tube.

X-ray unit: This is the most important piece of equipment within the basic instruments for dental clinics, because this device is used to take radiographs. It is an essential part of carrying out any dental treatment, as it allows any irregularity in the mouth to be detected before it becomes a problem. X-ray units are classified into two categories: intraoral and extraoral. An intraoral radiograph is taken inside the mouth. An extraoral radiograph is taken outside the mouth.
